And the setting chosen to shape this track could not be better.
The Cape Town ePrix circuit features a total of 12 corners and 2.8 kilometers of rope. The layout begins with a small straight line that connects the Green Point Stadium and the cricket club, in one of the most iconic areas of the entire city. A perfect setting for the expansion of the electric category, as recognized Alberto Longo as director of series operations: «We have had a very positive response within the ecosystem made up of riders, teams and sponsors about coming to Cape Town to compete. We are delighted to have this event on our Season 9 schedule.”
For its part, Ian Banner As head of the race promoter, he believes that the Cape Town ePrix will help demonstrate South Africa’s efforts to play an active role in sustainable mobility: «The public is crying out for a race on an urban track and now we are answering this request. We believe that Formula E in Cape Town will showcase South Africa as a major player in the transition to a greener future and will position the region as a pioneering center for renewable energy».
The first phase of construction of the circuit will begin next April and it is expected that the route will be outlined by December of this year. The last adaptation works of the urban section in which the layout has been drawn will be carried out in the weeks prior to the celebration of the Cape Town ePrix itself, although At the moment there is no fixed date for the event as the calendar of the ‘Season Nine’ of Formula E has not yet been defined.
