the universe of The Witcher has expanded with the arrival of the Netflix series based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Before there were episodes starring Henry Cavill, the only way to get involved in the story of Geralt of Rivia was with the original books or video games created and published by the company CD Projekt Red.
However, it seems that several people involved in the production of the audiovisual adaptation had not immersed themselves in the vast mythology of The Continent before embarking on the adventure of bringing it to life in live action to everything The problem is not that, but that, in addition, they showed little respect for the original works.
This was revealed by Beau DeMayo, who used to be a producer of the series that will soon premiere its third season. DeMayo is no longer part of the group designated to plot the adventures of the sorcerer, and will now be showrunner of the Disney Plus animated series X-Men ’97. Now that he finished his run on the fantasy show, he took advantage of the freedom to talk about how things worked there.
The former producer gives his opinion
He did it through a question and answer session on his Instagram stories (via TheDirect). There, a user asked him what the process had been to assemble the team that will take charge of the next chapters focused on Marvel mutants. The answer was broad and quite clear: in order to continue the legacy of a franchise, you have to be a true fan.
“In the fall of 2020, the management of streaming from Marvel asked me to develop an idea to revive this series. From there, I presented it and they hired me. My production manager was the first hire and he brought in all the amazing talent that followed. My rule of thumb was that you HAD to be a fan. There are no questions. I have participated in programs – for example, The Witcher– where some of the writers weren’t fans or didn’t like the books or games (they even actively mocked the source material). Pass the litmus test fandom to check the egos [de quienes forman parte del equipo] makes the nights long [de trabajo] they are worth it You have to respect the work before you can add anything to its legacy.

When the first season of the series premiered, many fans around the world did not agree with the drastic changes that were made to the narrative of the books. The arrival of the second batch of episodes calmed the waters a bit, but it still received mixed reviews.
Certainly Beau DeMayo’s approach is interesting. Within the film and television industry, more and more content is being made by and for fans of certain properties. However, there are those who say that, rather, when producing them, you have to deal with franchises with some caution and a little from the outside, because giving them so much fan love means damaging them, by wanting to cover several elements of an arc at the same time narrative.
Do you think that the production team for the next seasons should be made up of fans? The third hits the screens in the summer of 2023. Enter here to see the poster.
