It is a new trend in countries like Denmark and Germany that aims to harmonize the coexistence of the human being with nature. Forest schools are a pedagogical proposal that transports children to an environment where they can feel free, experience more sensations and learn from nature.
THE PROVEN BENEFITS OF FOREST SCHOOLS
According to Pajama Surf note, there are currently at least six such schools in Catalonia, Spain. Students are usually 3 to 6 years old, and natural elements such as stones, seeds, and animals are used to teach things ranging from “mathematics to language or psychomotricity, without a desk.” The benefits that have been found:
- More contact with nature and less use of technology or media.
- Increases children’s confidence and resilience.
- Children become aware of their surroundings. They begin to know the names of plants, to understand the behavior of certain animals, and possibly even of certain natural phenomena.
- It counteracts the self-absorption that is often part of an individualistic society or an “overprotective” upbringing.
- Encourage children to explore the world.
