Because it is a stimulant, caffeine affects children and adults alike. The caffeine is defined as a drug because it stimulates the central nervous system. Its consumption at a low level makes people feel more energetic and more alert. However, it is not necessary to consume large amounts of caffeine to trigger the following effects in children:
1. Nervousness
2. Upset stomach
3. Headache
4. Difficulty concentrating
5. Insomnia
6. Increased heart rate
7. Increased blood pressure
Younger children are more sensitive to caffeine because they have not been exposed to it like adults.
Some of the foods that contain caffeine are:
1. Soft drink
2. Chocolate bar
3. Hot chocolate
4. Coffee or cappuccino ice cream
5. Teabag
