An alternative that is gaining more and more strength in the face of the shutdown of copper and the closure of power plants is FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), that is, a fixed connection that links to the operator’s network through a mobile network. 5G is a technology with great potential to become an alternative to fiber. That is why several telephone companies are adding an FWA 5G router to their catalog to provide options to all those homes that are isolated from the fiber network.
The usual when you go to shut down an ADSL exchange is that the operators transfer their clients to their own new fiber network or to networks of other companies with which they have agreements. However, FWA has become a good alternative for all those homes that are left without fiber after the ADSL blackout. Orange does not want to be left behind and that is why it launches Flybox 5G, in addition to Airbox 5G, a portable 5G MiFi with integrated battery.
Flybox 5G, the new FWA 5G router
After testing the technology in Vizcaya and Lugo, the orange operator has already prepared the router that it is going to market for FWA. Although prices are still unknown, we already know the technical characteristics of the new Flybox 5G MC801A.
It is a 5G router that allows to reach speeds of mobile connection up to 4.6 Gbps. In addition, it is a Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 router (802.11ax 2 × 2 MIMO) with dual band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously, with maximum speeds of 574 Mbps and 1,200 Mbps. These features allow you to play online, share files, surf the Internet and watch streaming videos.
These are your main features:
- Internet connection via 5G/4G/3G mobile network (up to 4.6 Gbps).
- Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi signal: 2.4GHz and 5GHz, up to 574 Mbps and 1,200 Mbps respectively.
- 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports (1 Gb/s) for connection of wired equipment.
- Connect up to 32 Wi-Fi devices simultaneously.
Airbox 5G Portable Router
The operator also makes the Airbox 5G MU5001 portable 5G router available to its customers, which has built-in battery for all those who want to have a WiFi access point anywhere.
It allows to reach mobile connection speeds of up to 3.8 Gbps in download and 542 Mbps in upload. Like the Flybox 5G, it is a Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 (802.11ax 2×2 MU-MIMO) dual-band, simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz router, with maximum speeds of 574 Mbps and 1,200 Mbps.
Its main characteristics are the following:
- Internet connection via 5G/4G/3G mobile network (up to 3,800/542 Mbps).
- Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi signal, 2.4GHz and 5GHz, up to 574 Mbps and 1,200 Mbps respectively.
- Gigabit Ethernet port (1 Gb/s) for connection of wired equipment.
- Connect up to 30 Wi-Fi devices at the same time.
- 2.4” color LCD touch screen
- 4,500 mAh battery with 5.2 hours of autonomy.
- 220g weight.
That is, the same features as the Flybox 5G router, but with a 4,500 mAh battery with autonomy up to 5 hours and equipped with an LCD screen that facilitates the management of the operation of the device.
