It is because the Romans called this enclave “Sexi”. And it is that Almuñécar is one of the five oldest cities in Spain. Tartessos, Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks and Arabs have passed through there.
Sexi was an important fishing and commercial center. A memory of those times is its aqueduct but, above all, one of its main centers of interest: the Castillo de San Miguel. Located in the old town of Almuñécar, it dates from the 1st century BC, which is said soon. Of course, it has been reformed numerous times over time.

All in one, as you read. In addition, cultural events take place inside, including the Jazz Festival on the Coast.
extreme sports
The windy climate and the fact of being surrounded by mountains make Almuñécar an ideal place for extreme sports. Especially for paragliding. It is a form of sport skydiving that consists of launching from a very steep slope with a deployed parachute and making a controlled descent.
