The baby learns through the senses and it is you who must stimulate it. It is very simple, you just have to communicate with him and show him your love.
The five senses connect the baby with the outside. Through them, the brain receives the information it needs to explore the world and relate to others. Your collaboration, often unconsciously, is essential for its development. Touching your child, kissing him, gesturing and talking a lot helps him develop touch, sight and hearing. The games we propose here enhance these three senses. You should not obsess because your little one learns, he has his own rhythm and you must respect it.
1. Where has it gone?
To help him fix his gaze, teach him an object that catches his eye for a while. Then move him slightly away from your field of vision so that you move your eyes to him.
2. At 30 cm distance
The newborn focuses at a distance of 20 or 30 centimeters. What is outside that margin is blurred, it is fixed on the light and on what moves. It is almost the distance that separates you from your face when you breastfeed.
3. I like my mom!
What attracts him the most is his mother’s face. A human face is the most valuable and complete stimulation for the baby. So you should look at it for a long time, but with different nuances and expressions, such as sweetness or surprise, or grimacing to get their attention.
4. In black and white
During the first months of life, children pay special attention to black and white. Expose a drawing in these shades at a short distance and move it from one side to the other so that it follows you with your eyes. You will catch his interest again if you show him a different image, but in the same shades.
5. Skin with skin
The baby needs to be touched and caressed, because it is not enough that you feed him. Your pampering, caresses and loving words help him to know himself and to recognize his parents.
6. Different textures
Offer him objects of various sizes that he can manipulate with his little hands. You have to let them investigate on their own, making sure they don’t put them in their mouths. Baby cloth stories with different textures (velvet, wool, plastic) are an excellent resource.
7. Do you hear well?
To find out if you are listening correctly, you can clap your hands or ring a bell. At the stimulus the head will turn. And if it is very small it will startle (closing the eyelids).
8. Repetitive sounds
As soon as it is born, the baby begins to distinguish all kinds of sounds. Above all, he likes repetitives, like the one that makes his rattle.
9. Children’s songs
It is good to listen to lullabies, popular melodies and, better yet, sing them. If you vocalize along with him since he is a baby, then it will be easier for him to speak with good diction and more quickly.
