When we found out we didn’t even take it seriously. 299 euros? The new Xiaomi Pad 5 is going to make a lot of noise. With a temporary price of 299 euros —Only available during September 23 and 24—, we do not remember a technological product that embraces the classic “give more for less.”
But there are more reasons why this tablet, the first from Xiaomi to land in Spain, seeks to conquer its audience. We have selected another five. And many others that have remained in the inkwell.
First impressions always add up
Smooth aluminum construction with iridescent frames enter immediately through the eyes —And more in that neat pearl white. But here there is no trompe l’oeil, its specifications make it clear: the Snapdragon 860 processor with 8 cores, the Kyro 485 CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU, the 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage are not half measures.
There is no lack of sensors and no battery, with its 8720 mAh of storage and the ability to charge up to 33 watts. Nevertheless, If we talk about tablets, the screen is everything, the decisive factor.
And in this section we are pleased to know that the 11 inches with resolution WQHD + (2560 x 1600 dots) are HDR10 + compliant, performing at 120Hz refresh rate and uncompromising in color reproduction, covering almost 100% of the DCI-P3 profile. The light sensor, the temperature sensor, the professional color adjustment and the True Tone they take care of the rest.
Four speakers are always better than two
Xiaomi has insisted that its relationship with Dolby Audio goes beyond simple affair technical where one company engraves the name on the product of the other.
The Pad 5 does not have two, but with four speakers of identical performance. Quadraphonic sound? Stereo, actually. The best thing about this design lies in how the waves have the ability to wrap us in all directions. Not surprisingly, the Pad 5 supports Dolby Atmos through virtualization.
Each speaker, 16 x 20 mm and propose enough power and, being totally Hi-Res Audio Wireless compatible Through the Bluetooth 5.0 connection, those who own Xiaomi FlipBuds Pro will be able to get the most out of it.
Multitasking, what a nice name you have
If something has been pursued in Xiaomi in recent months, it is that it is useless to present new functions if they are not accompanied by sufficient usability. During the events of this week we have seen tasks such as deleting a person from a photo, and always with this maxim as a flag.
MIUI 12.5 for Pad, based on Android 11 and in gestation for a year, claims this maxim: that the jump to split screen, and multitasking between applications is something fluid, being able to turn from the 16:10 to 4: 3 ratio when necessary and squeezing the floating ball to the maximum.
Many buy a tablet to watch Netflix in bed, but there are thousands of other users who choose to work with them between trips. AND This is where the Xiaomi Pad 5 wants to stand out from the average.
Power to play
Android games are becoming more and more demanding. Well, just like gaming-oriented mobiles. But reality prevails and the cloud gaming seems to win this game.
The Pad 5 seems to have done its homework in this regard and, although it offers plenty of power to run any Android game of the latest batch, the capabilities of its display and its dual band Wi-Fi 802.11ac connection make it an ideal candidate to take cloud games anywhere.
Xbox Game Pass gets along especially well with Android, and the Pad 5 is essentially an Android tablet.
Your Smart Pen
It is neither included in the sales pack nor is it a bargain for the average user —99.99 euros. However, performance tests have made it clear that this proprietary stylus performs with high precision and achieves realistic writing thanks to its featherweight (12.2 grams).
This Smart Pen has the usual secondary button to take captures, the main button to take quick notes, and offers 4096 pressure levels and a sampling rate of 240Hz. Some figures common in professional illustration tablets but unusual in digital tablets designed for multimedia consumption.
