In 2018, Spider-Man: A New Universe it exceeded all expectations by offering us a visual spectacle with techniques rarely seen in the great animated films of Hollywood. Coupled with one of the best stories ever brought to the big screen by Marvel’s most beloved hero, the film won over audiences, critics, and the industry alike, even winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. Now, an ambitious sequel promises to raise the stakes, have they succeeded? Well, we already have first reactions from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) to give us an idea.
Miles Morales returns for another epic adventure that will take him across the multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of ‘Spider-people’ to battle a villain more powerful than anything they’ve ever faced. Of course, this installment is only the first part of a story that will culminate in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024.
On a technical level, producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller say that this sequel brings together the “greatest production team in the history of animation.” More than a thousand people participated to show 240 characters on the screen and create six dissimilar universes with a unique style.

Brian Davids of The Hollywood Reporter:
#SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse is yet another resounding win for the Lord Miller-produced universe. Hailee Steinfeld really comes into her own de ella as Gwen Stacy, and her scenes de ella with Shea Whigham’s Captain Stacy are truly special. It’s darker and sadder than I expected, but necessary. pic.twitter.com/BekW4nVAyv

Drew Taylor of The Wrap:
#SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse is a stunning achievement. Yes, it’s visually dazzling, with expansive, expressive new realms (Gwen’s world is my favorite). But the movie’s real superpower is its emotional depth and its beautiful, melancholic tone. I love this movie so, so much 🕷️ pic.twitter.com/ofHvWCrNqy

across the #SpiderVerse is simply an incredible accomplishment. It’s stunning but also very much an unfinished story by its end.
Visually, it’s such a stunning achievement. It’s everything a #spiderman fans could ask for and much more.
So good, it’s hard to believe it exists. pic.twitter.com/HLtQwQw8LB

Erik Davis of fandango:
Hands down, #AcrossTheSpiderVerse is real deal. Visually unlike anything you will see in a theater this year – it very much feels like the BACK TO THE FUTURE II of the series. A middle chapter that’s weird & funky & shocking, but also the ultimate #spiderman experience. It rocks! pic.twitter.com/TNvoIF6Wio

“Definitely, Through the Spider-Verse is what it promises. Visually unlike anything you’ll see in a theater this year. It feels a lot like the back to the future 2 from the series. A middle chapter that is weird, modern and shocking, but also the ultimate Spider-Man experience. Rock on!”

I am very happy to say that #spiderman #AcrosstheSpiderVerse is fantastic! Deftly juggles deeply heartfelt character beats with crazy multiverse content just packed with so many delightful Easter eggs. Loved how Gwen’s story is expanded. Can’t wait for the third one. pic.twitter.com/bUu75wOgPf

Kevin Polowy of Yahoo! Entertainment:
It’s honestly absurd how good the Spider-verse movies are. #AcrosstheSpiderVerse is just as great, if not better than Into the Spider-Verse. I really don’t know how.
Every frame is like a work of art.

“Honestly, it’s absurd how good the Spider-Verse movies are. Through the Spider-Verse is just as cool, if not better, than a new universe. I really don’t know how they do it. Each frame is like a work of art.”
Joe Deckelmeier of ScreenRant:

You can watch this film over & over & find something new to enjoy. There are some surprises in this film that I truly wasn’t expecting. pic.twitter.com/8UpTCXzyCM

#AcrossTheSpiderVerse is the reason I love comics
It’s hugely impactful
It can only truly be told in this medium
It’s drama & comedy and action and spectacle with the most heart I can imagine put into two hours
Call me hyperbolic, one of the best films I have ever experienced pic.twitter.com/4VylKOlpzd

#AcrossTheSpiderVerse is yet another milestone for animation. Yes it’s gorgeous & visually mind-blowing, but this sequel surpasses the first for always putting Miles AND his family of him front and center.
Spider-Gwen also rightfully steps deeper into the spotlight, co-owning the film. pic.twitter.com/maYL97vAeg
