Christopher Nolan is back, and in what way. oppenheimer, his new film, has become one of the most anticipated stories of next year, and 7 months after its premiere, we finally have the first images. Ready to learn the story of the father of the atomic bomb?
The first of these images shows us its protagonist, cillian murphyY Emily Blunt. This is Murphy’s fifth collaboration with Nolan, and this time he has a big challenge on his hands. The actor will give life to J.Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist credited with creating the atomic bomb. Obviously, it is a complex role, since his intelligence led him to a great discovery that changed (for better and for worse) the lives of many.
One of the most striking images is that of Robert Downey Jr., because it shows us the actor characterized as an older man. In the tape he will give life to Lewis Strauss, president of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, who would later have several conflicts with Oppenheimer.
“We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest movie stars. Seeing him lose himself in that performance, and completely lose himself in a character in this way, was just an incredible reminder of what an amazing actor he is,” Christopher Nolan told Total film.
Speaking of Nolan, one of the new images allows us to see the renowned filmmaker in full filming. It also shows an IMAX camera, a format that Nolan constantly uses in his films. However, this time there is a peculiarity, and that is that oppenheimer will feature IMAX scenes in black and white, something never seen before in cinema history. To do this, Nolan and Hoyte van Hoytema (director of photography), had to face various technical challenges.
“We challenged the people at Kodak to make this work for us. And they took a step forward. For the first time we were able to shoot an IMAX movie in black and white. And the results were exciting and extraordinary. Since Hoyte and I saw the first tests, we knew that this was a format that we immediately fell in love with, ”he added.
