The Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE) reported that the positive cases are distributed in: Mexico City, 209 infections; Jalisco, 69; State of Mexico, 21; Yucatan, 20; Quintana Roo, 12; Baja California, eight; Nuevo Leon, seven; Chiapas, five; Veracruz, five; Puebla, four; Tabasco, four; Morelos, three; Colima, two; Chihuahua, two; Guanajuato, two; Oaxaca, two; Queretaro, two; Sinaloa, two; Sound, two; Aguascalientes, one; Baja California Sur, one; Coahuila, one; Michoacán, one, and San Luis Potosí, one.
Characteristics of the patients
Of the total confirmed cases, 97 percent correspond to men and three percent to women. 47.2 percent of people are between 30 and 39 years old; that is, 182. Likewise, four are under 20 years old; 90, from 20 to 29; 81 between 40 and 49; 25 from 50 to 59; and four people, 60 years or older.
In detail the Weekly Technical Report on Epidemiological Surveillance mentions that a total of 862 people who meet the operational definition of a probable case. Of that number there are 386 that have been confirmed, in addition to 172 under study and 304 ruled out by laboratory tests.
The first death from monkeypox in Mexico?

This disease is transmitted by direct contact with the secretions of a sick person through mucosa or skin lesions, respiratory droplets and objects contaminated with body fluids. The illness lasts an average of 21 days.
It can be prevented by avoiding direct physical contact with people who are sick or suspected of having the disease. Sexual contact is an activity that must be taken into account, since it is spread by very close contact between two or more people.
There are practices that can increase the risk of infections, including monkeypox, such as: sex with strangers, dark rooms or sex parties; this, due to the close contact between people during these activities.
Those who care for family members with the disease should wash the sick person’s clothes, towels and sheets, and eating utensils with warm water and detergent; also, clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces. In case of presenting symptoms, patients should avoid approaching other people and not go to public places.
