Corvette Racing has published a short video from which the first images of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, the vehicle on which the brand’s global sports program is based, have been extracted.
Last week the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R had its baptism of fire on the track. Under the utmost secrecy, Corvette Racing completed the shakedown of his new GT3 at the General Motors test track at Milford Proving Grounds. A small test to check that everything was in place and that serves as an appetizer of the intense testing program that this model will have for its debut in 2024.
Although at first the data on this shakedown was minimal, over the days some details have been revealed. Thanks to the little teaser video posted by Corvette Racingfans have been able to see some small details of the Z06 GT3.R, but also verify that Antonio García was in charge of completing the first kilometers of the car.
The only confirmed detail of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R is the 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine that the model mounts
Yes indeed, data on the Corvette Z06 GT3.R remains minimal. We have barely seen his front or rear wing, in addition to seeing him shoot on the track with a strategic camera shot so that the fair and necessary details are revealed. At a technical level, the information is still more limited and beyond the presence of a 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine insideno more data.
A 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine that features the same flat crank architecture already used by the current Corvette C8.R GTE, a model that it will replace in the main endurance competitions. In fact, the brand’s new GT3 is essential within Corvette’s sports plans, always with the support and management of Pratt & Miller.

key move
The role of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R within the sports strategy of Corvette Racing is keysince the current GTEs no longer have space in IMSA and will be replaced in the WEC from the 2024 season. The GT3s are already protagonists of the GTD and GTD Pro categories of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and will also star in the GT class of the World Championship in the immediate future.
Thus, a global competitive scenario in resistance is drawn which is unavoidable due to its importance, but also in the GT3 categories themselves. In fact, these technical regulations support championships such as the DTM, the different regional competitions of the GT World Challenge or the Intercontinental GT Challenge, as well as many national championships.
Promising future
At this point, Corvette Racing is working to make this Z06 GT3.R be the protagonist of the most ambitious competitive program of the brand. On the one hand, two units of the new Corvette GT3 will compete in the official team that the brand will have in the IMSA GTD Pro class from 2024. From there, the manufacturer wants to shape a great ‘customer-racing’ program to take your car to all corners of the world.
The main objective is that at least one privateer team competes with the Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the WEC, being the priority scenario within the ‘client-races’ program, beyond the IMSA GTD class. From there, the brand will assess which markets and championships are the most interesting for your car, always on the basis of high demand as it seems that Corvette may have.
