Good news for all Firefox users on Android smartphones, who will soon be able to switch tabs by simply sliding their finger on the address bar! Indeed, the very last build of Firefox Nightly, another version of the browser which serves above all as a test and development platform, already makes it possible to do so, without any specific action on your part (except to update the application). This feature is only available for smartphones with Android 5.0 and above.
Nothing prevents an Internet browser from drawing inspiration from the characteristics of another, quite the contrary. Chrome users will probably smile since as a reminder, this feature has been available on Google’s browser for a long time. Almost hidden and sometimes unrecognized, the latter is nevertheless extremely practical to use. The procedure is the same on Firefox Nightly as on Google Chrome: all you need to do is swipe your finger to the left or to the right once positioned on the address bar to change tabs. Version 75 of Firefox (for computers), released in April, already featured the URL bar since itnow adapts to your screen size while providing more relevant search suggestions.
If the Firefox development team is constantly watching to prevent bugs from setting in, the feature already seems to be working properly. We can, therefore, expect it to switch quickly to the beta version of the browser, before ending its race on the stable channel that is the standard Firefox application.
There are two solutions available to you if you are impatient to use this feature. You can already choose to install the latest version of Firefox Nighly from the Google Play Store, or from APK Mirror. In addition to taking advantage of this new functionality, this application will allow you to take advantage of all future Firefox features in preview. If you are users of the standard version of Firefox, do not panic, since an existing extension already allows you to do this. The latter is called Simple Gesture, developed by utubo. It also adds many touch gestures for Firefox on Android.
