Five years ago, Mozilla released an extension for Firefox called ‘Firefox Multi-Account Containers’, which allowed create ‘watertight compartments’ within the browserin order to be able to separate personal, work, banking and/or online shopping browsing… without the need to clean the history nor to walk opening and closing sessions.
With this system, different cookies for the same online services remain separate from each otherin such a way that it is possible to keep open as many sessions of the same as containers we want to create and configure.
The truth is that Mozilla boasts that this tool designed to compartmentalize our online life is very popular among its user base, thanks to its flexibility when it comes to customizing and categorizing containers.

Containers + VPN, adding layers to online privacy
Well, today Mozilla has announced a new advance in its commitment to online privacy protection (which also links to other products such as Firefox Relay or Total Cookie Protection), integrating this ‘multi-account container’ technology with another of its products, Mozilla VPNavailable in Spain since last July.
Thus, Firefox manages to provide an extra layer of privacy to its users by allowing them to configure different VPN servers for each containerthus facilitating access only to certain services from IPs linked to certain geographical locations, for example (Mozilla VPN allows us to choose from over 400 servers in 30 countries).
The foundation has described this container/VPN combo as “a unique privacy solution only available in Firefox.”
In addition, Mozilla has announced that Mozilla VPN’s ‘multi-hop’ functionality (which allows you to chain several VPN servers to reinforce the privacy of the connection) is now also available on mobile devices, after having been presented in September in desktop environments.
Let’s remember, in any case, that Mozilla VPN is not a free tool (to avoid having to pay for it with your personal data’, they say from the company), but that its cheapest plan, with annual billing, allows us to pay for the VPN service for 4.99 euros per month (that is, for a total of 59.88 euros per year).
