In 2022, WhatsApp registers two billion accounts in the world.
Meta’s platform already delivers one hundred billion messages a day.
Only in 25 countries WhatsApp is not the most used messaging app.
The benefits that new technologies have brought in terms of users are very broad, communication being one of them. A story is once again shaping this evolution, as a film director stood out for creating a film directed through the WhatsApp instant messaging platform.
Social networks have broken communication barriers and that is why more and more users are joining these spaces. According to data from the report carried out by We Are Social and Hootsuite, it revealed that there are currently 4.620 million network users worldwide, where some users of the instant messaging platform stand out.
In this sense, and taking these numbers, Meta’s communication platform currently registers two billion users, a high number that is only close to Facebook Messenger, from the same creators.
The history
The story that has attracted attention and that reinforces the importance of current social networks involves Will Cathcart, one of the leaders of WhatsApp, and the Iranian film director, Farbod Abedili, who talked about the new movie “Forbidden to See Us”. Scream in Tehran” which was directed through Meta’s messaging service.
As mentioned by the director, he directed this film project remotely from his stay in the United States, taking advantage of the encrypted messages available on the Meta platform.
Also, taking advantage of the platform, the director was able to gather crucial information and interact with his team members addressing complex issues related to the production, even sharing private data from sources.
Given this, the director explained to local media that his choice to use this tool was based on the privacy guarantee offered by the application’s end-to-end encryption, since, for him, “it was essential to prevent the government from spying on or had access to the conversations during the filming process, especially when portraying the lives of women in Tehran.”
And Iranian Farbod Abedili directed this film project remotely because it was not safe for him to return to his home country.
His journey was that through WhatsApp, the director spoke with keys for filming such as production and even exchanged private data from the sources.
The film called ‘Forbidden to See Us Scream in Tehran’ is a short drama whose main character is Shima, the lead singer of a Death Metal band in Tehran, the capital of Iran. It narrates that in said country, Shima and her colleagues face the constant anguish of being caught by the authorities, due to the rigid rules against women.
In that sense, the Meta platform was a great tool for the development of this film.
Let’s remember that the application has stood out for being one of the most used in the world, especially for its privacy protection, where in January 2023, WhatsApp introduced a new function in its configuration that allows users to connect to the service through proxy servers, which are created by volunteers and organizations from different parts of the world.
This story adds to others that highlight the advantages of social networks, especially those of Meta that are being used by people, even small business owners to manage their business communications and even to launch successful marketing campaigns.
With this, there are more and more demonstrations of success that the good use of a social network can leave, which not only links us all in the world, but also allows us to have a global vision.
