He is even more active and begins to try to speak. Welcome to the “babbling” stage.
He still can’t speak, but he seems to be trying. “Ba-baba,” says the boy. “Yes, darling,” says Mom, “do you think so?” “Ta-ta-ta,” he seems to be answering. Actually, babies don’t need language at first: They are able to communicate to “tell you” what they need from birth. Or isn’t the first thing mom and dad learn to tell their baby’s crying hunger, sleep, or pain? Until very recently, her main way of expressing herself was crying. During the first weeks, in fact, it was the only tool of the baby to locate you, complain, ask, warn… Two months later, his crying was perfected a lot: he had different rhythms and shades depending on the cause that caused it.
DIVING OF DIFFERENT TONES
But it is at the fifth month (some later) when the stage of the “babbling” proper begins. Have you noticed that your child has started mixing vowels and consonants and repeating the resulting syllable: pa-pa-pa-pa, ti-ti-titi…? Thanks to the development of the muscles and the vocal cords, it has expanded its range of sounds. In reality, he usually uses three or four different sounds: “b”, “m” and “u” (the most used) and combines them in endless strings. In addition, he begins to perfect the technique by endowing his babble with different tones. Turn up the volume, turn it down, turn it up again… you could almost say he’s singing. Of course, you are listening and you like it.
Some babies at this age may show that they already recognize their name. If you pronounce it in the middle of the conversation or address the child by naming him, he may stop doing what he is doing and give you a tender look and the best of his smiles. In addition, there is little left for another great milestone in its development: next month it will repeat sounds, keeping its turn to speak. He will stop, listen and try to imitate them.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR BABY THIS MONTH:
? Begin to distinguish the manifestation of your own emotions: joy, sadness, tension?
? Attempts to sit unaided and is already able to support head when sitting
? Distinguish slightly between ranges of different colors (eg pastel shades)
? He extends his arms to take the objects that attract his attention. Now you can hold them with your whole hand, pass them from one to the other, splash in the water, crumple a paper…
? His reflection in the mirror makes him very funny. He just found out that he is his best fun
? Concentrates more and for longer, allowing you to play with the same toy for a few minutes
? Some babies already show signs of recognizing their name.
