The name change of video games gains strength.
Over the last few months it has been possible to see how the FIFA saga has been in danger of continuingthis being something that is not due to sales, since these show that the football title continues to be one of the great annual releases in practically every month of the year.
On the contrary, the reason why the saga is in danger is due to the lack of agreement between EA and FIFA, the soccer body that gives the license (in exchange for a considerable sum of money) and that has been in force for more than 25 years. However, in recent months, around the release of FIFA 22, it could be seen as EA began to dig the ground for a change in the brand name.
The latter is due both to the excessive price that FIFA asks for the transfer of its name and to the limitations that this body imposes on Electroci Arts when it comes to bringing content to its football gamethis being the reason why Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, would be rethinking that FIFA 23 was the last with that name.
FIFA 23 would be the last to bear the name of FIFA
This recent information has been made known through VGC, who has published an article in which they point out that anonymous sources claim that the CEO of Electronic Arts would have addressed his employees to talk about the future of the football saga and the relationship with FIFA.
Under this premise, Wilson would have pointed out that FIFA would be quite limiting the content they can bring to FIFA video gameswithout even being able to exit the 11 Vs. 11 game modes. In fact, it indicates that except when there are World Cups, the title comes with less content than they would like.
Wilson reportedly went on to point out that, after all, FIFA is just four letters in the box on the floor, so it wouldn’t be a huge loss to change the name. In fact, it has already been rumoured, leaked and speculated that as of 2023 (the year FIFA’s ten-year license expires), the saga could start to be called EA Sports FC.
Be that as it may, despite the statements made by the CEO of EA about the improvements of the franchise, the truth is that FIFA video games have never given any hint of wanting to evolve with each installment, limiting itself to minor changes and updating templates in many cases. It will be necessary to see if these words end up being fulfilled in the event that the relationship with FIFA ends.
