The weeks and days leading up to the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans have been the scene of multiple announcements and confirmations. Acura, BMW or Cadillac have presented their LMDh prototypes or, at least, have advanced their design. Similarly, Lamborghini has confirmed that it will join forces with Ligier in the development of its prototype, in this case for the 2024 season. In this line, Ferrari did not want to be less and has also given a first preview of its LMH prototypealthough this has been tiny.
In the line of total secrecy with which Ferrari is managing its LMH project, to the point of sparking rumors about a possible delay in the debut of its prototype, the Maranello brand has shown what is fair and necessary to remember that ‘they are still alive’. In fact, the entire design of the LMH prototype remains a secret, since Ferrari has barely shown the silhouette of its front. ferrari logo, the optical groups and the ‘nerve’ that joins both It is the only moderately visible. Under the shape of the sides of the splitter is intuited.
This is all that we ‘know’ about Ferrari’s LMH so far, a prototype that should start its track tests in the coming weeks and that according to the brand’s statement shows the first details of the “strong design references” that define this prototype and link it to the design of the manufacturer’s production sports cars. Much to say when the only thing we have in hand is the rendering of the prototype’s nose, although the design line of the street range itself adapts perfectly to the aerodynamic and visual demands of the competition.
Beyond this curiosity, Antonello Coletta as head of Ferrari’s Attivita Sportive GT department, he has given some details about the project’s timetable. As we have already said, the track tests are scheduled to start in the coming weeks. This test program will start with the traditional shakedown on the Ferrari track at Fiorano. In addition, Coletta himself has confirmed that the brand’s GT drivers will be in charge of carrying out the first tests with the prototype.
In this regard, it should be noted that James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi, Miguel Molina, Davide Rigon, Niclas Nielsen and Alessio Rovera have recently completed a test with AF Corse’s ORECA 07-Gibson as part of the preparations for this testing program. A test that took place in Vallelunga and that in the case of Miguel Molina served as the icing on the cake of a week in which he faces the 24 Hours of Le Mans after climbing to the second podium position in the 1,000 km of Paul Ricard of the GTWC Europe.
