Microsoft and Bethesda’s long-awaited summer event, Xbox Showcase, has concluded, and among a long list of new titles, users’ attention has been captured by a first cinematic look at Team Ninja’s next project, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a game with mythological and horror overtones, in which when presenting it they stressed the importance of maintaining the traditions of Asian games within the Xbox platform.
This game developed in conjunction with koei-tecmothe creators of Dynasty Warriorsshowed us its first trailer, which begins with a plague of locusts feeding on a pile of bodies as zombies attack the citizens of a burning city, before a red serpentine dragon flies into the sky.
This trailer shows us a sinister old man spying on a pair of nameless warriors fighting in the heart of an army, it is then that attention turns to the destroyed city, where a centipede-like demon emerges from the rubble, while that a swordsman meeting a mounted halberdier on the steps of a grand palace closes the shot.
Now, it’s kind of hard to tell even what kind of game Wo Long will end up being, but the presence of Team Ninja in the project gives us a good feeling, and the hope that this is an action game with characters like the ones we saw in Nioh Y stranger of paradisewhile the game seems to be focused on the epic works of Chinese history, and Koei Tecmo is comfortable adapting.
His synopsis so far goes like this: “Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty follows the action-packed and dramatic story of an unnamed militia soldier struggling to survive in a dark fantasy version of the later Han dynasty, where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. Players battle deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using the Chinese martial arts-based sword, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within.”
So it remains to be seen what this title prepares for us, but what is a fact is that it looks quite promising, so it could be worth the wait, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be released in early 2023 for Xbox.
