Facebook is testing the voice and video call function from its main application, which seeks to reduce the need to switch between said app and Messenger, its instant messaging service.
According to various reports, users in various countries can now make voice and video calls without leaving FacebookAlthough the platform has indicated that to have a full-featured video calling, audio and messaging experience, people should continue to use Messenger… so why include the feature within the main app?
Apparently, it is one more of Facebook’s movements in order to integrate and link all its applications and services, including WhatsApp, Portal, and Oculus, which offer voice and video calls. This, after last year the social network decided to link Messenger with Instagram.
“Over time you are going to see a lot more of this” (referring to the changes that are aimed at linking all Facebook apps, as part of a single system), Connor Hayes, managing director of Facebook, told Bloomberg. Messenger products, and described the messaging service as the “connective tissue for people to be close when separated, regardless of which service they choose to use.”
Although there is still no information about when calls and video calls will arrive from the main app to all Facebook users, in the opinion of those who already have them enabled, this represents an advantage for some and something unnecessary for others. What do you think? Is it something necessary or irrelevant?
