Facebook has approximately 2.9 billion users worldwide.
There are many social networks that are constantly evolving monthly to improve the experience they provide to their millions of users. One of these is Meta Platforms, which announced Thursday that its flagship social network, Facebook, is introducing new ways for users to have up to five profiles, in one single-function account.
Without a doubt, one of the most iconic and used social networks in the world is Facebook, which according to data from DataReportal lThe platform created by Mark Zuckemberg led again in 2021 the ranking of those with the most active users, with approximately 2.9 billion.
This figure is attractive for all users of social networks, since a study of We Are Social and Hootsuite indicate that approximately Three billion Internet users regularly use social networks. A figure that is also expected to continue to increase gradually based on the parallel increase in mobile device users.
Facebook and its new function
The technology company pointed out that this new function to introduce new ways for users to have up to five profiles, on an account, it will be a major change from the “real name” requirement that the company has maintained since its inception.
They also explained in a press release that this product change “It would help people tailor their experience based on their interests and relationships.”
They add that the additional profiles were linked to a single account for each user and the company will continue to require each user to maintain a single account.
In that same order, they detail that users could have one for friends and one for co-workers, for example, each with their own feed, but they will only be able to comment or like another post with a certain profile.
This new action by Meta comes as it is ramping up its efforts to drive engagement on the world’s largest social network, which has experienced slow growth, especially among younger users, reporting significant customer loss in February for the first time in its history.
Let’s remember that Facebook has previously offered multiple profiles, but in a more limited way, where public figures, for example, have been able to manage multiple accounts for years, and the company has also allowed users to create different identities for dating or college.
The company also explained that the rules will remain the same, as additional profiles will continue to be required to comply with Facebook’s content policies and will be linked to a user’s main account, meaning that violations of the rules in one profile will affect the others.
At the time Facebook launched student profiles, Meta executives argued that users were looking to interact around interests that were more specific than things they might find with their core social experience.
Given that, with multiple profiles, the social network hopes that users create separate identities for their different hobbies, such as games, travel or food, according to the spokesman.
In that sense, he detailed that the test will not change the way Meta calculates its monthly or daily active user totals, which are reported during earnings.
So he clarified that the multi-profile effort is just a test for now, and includes some users in the United States and others in a handful of other countries.
Facebook is not the only digital platform that announced changes to its interface, since Twitter launched a new feature dedicated to users that they do not want to participate in uncomfortable conversations or that, in some way, threaten their mental health.
As Telegram also launched its Premium platform, which is the new section of the social network, which has a cost of 4.99 dollars per month (about 83.55 Mexican pesos).
The importance of social networks in the daily lives of people around the world is indisputable, which is why technology companies They are increasingly thinking about how they can improve the time these users spend on them.
