Facebook is a company that lives obsessed with the future. And also for the personal data of its users.
During the last months, we have seen how they have presented advances in both areas and it seems that they are very clear about the next great novelty: Augmented Reality (AR).
In an interview for The Information, the head of Facebook Reality Labs, Michael Abrash, talked a little about the vision and future they have.
And ensures that in some years the desk workspaces will be replaced by virtual reality systems to increase efficiency.
But more importantly, Augmented Reality devices would be the relay that will replace current smartphones:
Everyone sees that Augmented Reality will replace the phone someday. That seems a fact. But I think virtual reality will be as important as AR. The AR can replace the phone, in turn the Virtual Reality can replace the personal computer.
To succeed, AR glasses must be socially acceptable, weigh no more than 70 grams and dissipate no more than 500 milliwatts in the head.
For the specialist, this natural evolution will be key to improve the dynamics in work environments. Particularly in the field of information technology.
However, the hardware that would make all this possible is still in full development. So it will take some time before seeing this future come true.
The idea is that the devices are thinner, agile and conventional. So it would not be until about 2030 that the necessary minimum standards would be reached.
