Extreme E begins to consolidate itself as a category to follow. After a hesitant first season, the contest organized by Alejandro Agag and Gil de Ferran has taken a step towards its consolidation in the first X-Prix of its second campaign. A scenario that has also been used by the promoters of the series to announce the idea of organizing a parallel championship that has the hydrogen fuel cell as its protagonist. Its name would be Extreme H, it would arrive in 2024 and it would compete in parallel with Extreme E.
The hydrogen fuel cell seems to be the solution to many of the problems offered by electric mobility with batteries and the world of competition may be the best test bench for this technology. Alejandro Agag knows this and that is why he wants to launch Extreme H for 2024. The idea is to use the same Extreme E Odyssey 21 chassis developed by Spark Racing Technologies. From there, the space occupied by the batteries produced by Williams Advanced Engineering in the original model would become the hydrogen tanks.

The technology is not new and even XE uses an application of it by having hydrogen power plants, produced by AFC Energy, at X-Prix. In fact, these systems are the ones used to charge the battery of the current electric Odyssey 21. In this aspect, Alejandro Agag and Gil de Ferran hope to have the same teams and brands that are already present in the championship and integrate the two categories so that they can compete during the same weekends in the X-Prix.
Alexander Agag has assured: «Together with the Extreme E teams we will decide in the coming months the best way to integrate a series with hydrogen-powered vehicles. on current race weekends. Two categories that compete separately is the best option, but joint races could also take place. By using the current platform, we can optimize transportation and logistics to minimize our carbon footprint. We can double the action with additional marginal impact».
In this line, Agag has added: «Extreme E has been designed as a test bed for innovation and solutions in mobility. Creating a hydrogen racing series is nothing more than the natural evolution of our mission to show new possibilities to combat climate problems. Sport is a fast and effective platform to drive innovation and I believe that the creation of Extreme H together with the FIA and the Automobile Club de Monaco is the path we have to take to influence our objective.
