The director of Morbius has explained why Michael Keaton’s Vulture from the MCU appears in that universe
Next week, the new and long-awaited Marvel movie from Sony Pictures, Morbius, arrives in theaters, a film whose first impressions and initial reception have not been what could be expected from a premiere of these characteristics, however, as in any film that is related to the Spider-man Universe, fans do not stop wondering about what they have seen on screen.
One of the doubts that Morbius has raised the most is where and how the film takes place within the context of the Marvel multiverse, because the trailers and spots that have been seen during the promotion have not shed any light on this subject.
No fewer than four franchises were referenced in the trailer with spider-manand Tom Hardy’s post-credits cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to indicate that the mythologies of Sony and Marvel Studios were keeping separate. However, the villain Spider-man: HomecomingMichael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes is still a part of Morbius. So the question obviously is… Is this a variant of Adrian himself in another Universe, or is he the same character that has somehow made it to that universe.
Director Daniel Espinosa explains it
During a question and answer session on Twitter organized by CinemaBlenddirector Daniel Espinosa clarified this issue, although it is still a bit confusing and doesn’t make much sense (the film has been accused of being incoherent, so it is possible that the director did not understand the concept of no way home), this is what he said.
“At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is clearly established that it is possible for characters to transfer from one Multiverse to another. The events of No Way Home had the effect of transferring Venom and The Vulture (and perhaps others) between the MCU and the Venom Universe..
Which means that even though the final spell No Way Home the Doctor Strange erased Peter Parker from everyone’s memory and sent Venom back to the universe where he belongs, Michael Keaton’s Vulture inexplicably managed to sneak in. What I said doesn’t make sense. We will see if when Morbius is released in theaters, it clarifies this question a little more.
