It is not uncommon for artists who, even with a short career, to acquire great prominence in the music scene, attracting millions of listeners to streaming platforms. This is the case of the rapper Mateca who, after only three years of career, jumped from 300 thousand to more than 2 million monthly listeners on a single platform.
Mateca is new to the music scene, but his current releases have been gaining audiences and large numbers of plays, so those who invest in music royalties end up having positive results with the assets invested. The rapper is one of the artists that make up the portfolio of Brodr, a Latin American marketplace dedicated to music royalties.
Pedro Nasser, executive director of Brodr, explains that when the artist arrived at the portfolio he had 300,000 monthly listeners, shortly after he managed to reach 2 million.
“As much as the new songs that come out are not in the company’s catalog, we realize that every time a new artist gains repercussion, the public tends to visit his entire repertoire, as a way to get to know him even more.“, Explain.
According to the executive, it is in this action, in which many listeners seek to know the artist’s repertoire, that music royalty buyers benefit, which today are also tokenized or converted into NFTs in which the holder is entitled to part of these profits.
Nowadays, social networks and streaming platforms are the new way to measure the success of an artist or a song, and every time a certain song is played, the buyer of the rights also earns.
“In this scenario, fans become, in a way, partners of their favorite artists.”, he highlights.
According to the MIDiA Research report released earlier this year, music streaming platforms reached 523.9 million subscribers in 2021, an increase of 109.5 million (26.4%) from the previous year.
The Brazilian Association of Independent Music points out that Brazilians spend an average of 10h19min on the internet, of that total, 2h30min are listening to music on streaming services.
By buying assets on platforms like Brodr, which uses NFT technology to offer various benefits to fans and investors, the buyer becomes the ‘owner‘ from the artist’s catalog and start receiving royalties according to the number of times the songs are played, whether on digital platforms, public places, television or radio.
“Thus, the expert explains that every time this song is played, the holder of NFT receives the percentage referring to his participation. The percentage is paid directly on the platform through the smart contract”, he concludes.
