Two generations of the convertible with the four rings and not one more. The Audi A5 Cabrio will be sacrificed at the end of its commercial life on the market. The German brand does not have this model, nor does it have the five-door sports saloon, with no place in the total renewal of products that it is undertaking in the introduction of the new electric ones.
A few months ago the brand with the four rings began to sentence some models of the current product range to death. Others were left behind on the road longer ago, but given their more Premium profile and with a higher commercial margin, they have remained for sale. Now, a limit has been reached where there is no choice but to hang the cross on all those who will not have continuity in the market beyond when the commercial life cycle of the generation for sale ends.
If a few weeks ago we told you that the Audi A5 Sportback had no future beyond the middle of the decade, the next on the list is the Audi A5 Convertible. Although by prestige it would be understood that it continued, the truth is that those responsible for the brand with the four rings they are not guided by the competitionwhich has decided that its equivalent competitors make a qualitative leap and scale up a segment, this strategy in the Ingolstadt has no place.
Another goodbye in Audi, the A5 Cabrio will disappear from the range
The German brand has decided to electrify its range of models at the highest level, launching a electric car offensive which, by the middle of the decade, will have four new generation models. Y convertibles have no place in this future range of zero emission models, according to the information that our internal sources have indicated. The manufacturer will offer only more traditional body types sedans, family cars and SUVs, as well as some new concepts as is the case of the replacement of the A8 that will bet on the crossover format.
But the rafters have no place. At least, not in the short term, so that in a more distant future they can return to the offer, although they have indicated to us that not in the category in which the Audi A5 Cabrio currently militates. Costs rule and, currently, the investment to be carried out to conceive an electric mass convertible is not profitablea product that makes much more sense as a top of the range product.
This second generation of the A5 Cabrio has been on sale since 2016, so in just over a year, it will end its life on the market. A very niche model that is not a sales success either, and without which Audi can survive calmly and without worries against their rivals. The only convertible in the range, after exiting through the back door of the A3 Cabrio, its days are numbered and, at best, can survive a little longer in the market if the firm decides to extend a few months plus its production in Neckarsulm.
