The brand with the four rings has decided to jump into the pool in what can be a master move or a very risky bet. The manufacturer has decided to get ahead of the most direct competition with the new Audi A4 e-tron, transforming the D-segment sedan into an electric model that will arrive in 2024, and about which we will tell you all the keys.
A few weeks ago we told you that Germany had decided to cease all kinds of aid for the purchase of low-emission cars, mainly plug-in hybrids, as of the first day of next year 2023. A decision that the head of Audi took the opportunity to applaud in stylebecause then customers will have no choice but to switch to electric cars if they want access to key models. And in this situation is the future of the Audi A4.
A key model and is at the end of its commercial life and of which not a single prototype has been seen other than the family body variant, when it is normal for these to be seen in tests between six months and a year after starting the development of the sedans. Audi has started the house from the roof for the replacement of the A4, causing a barrage of rumours. In fact, we know that the A6 range will have two electrical options, a Sportback-type sports saloon and the family car, and the firm has started development for the first, quite the opposite of the future A4 e-tron that stays away from the dreaded spy photos.
Audi A4 e-tron 2024, the Premium saloon will abandon combustion
The truth is that, according to the information provided by our internal sources, the brand with the four rings has reformed its strategy for launching new models taking advantage of this measure launched in Germany, one of the big markets where the A4 sells thousands of units. But there are also other factors that have weighed heavily in this decision, since the German firm is perfectly aware that, in the middle of the decade, a new generation of the BMW i3 will arrive which, following the pattern of appointments of the new electric range, will correspond to the 3 Series.
This is, almost, the primary factor to understand the change in strategy, to get ahead of one of its greatest rivals. However, what can be a perfect move also has its disadvantages and can be a daring with terrible consequences. Audi understands that now is the perfect time to transform the A4 into an e-tron, and that customers will hardly notice any difference in space and dynamic qualities of the model that is based on the PPE platform of Premium electric cars and with an avant-garde design influenced by the Audi Skysphere Concept, with slim LED headlights at the top and the main ones at a lower level.
the german firm will maintain traditional combustion and plug-in hybrid options in the same category, although it will only do so with two models: the Audi A4 Avant and the second generation of Audi Q5, both already in testing and in a very advanced state of development. This is the “master move” of the Ingolstadt brand, considering the new Audi A4 e-tron as the model that will offer customers the transformation in mobility in the Premium category, and what will we see in 2024 on the roads European.
