When the first season of the series created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, and starring the first, premiered, we did not expect to like it so much.
It is true that science fiction, comedy and time loops are three elements that we love together (and separately), but we were very surprised that the series was so top. A little hidden gem that will soon became one of the best Netflix series nominated for an Emmy among other awards for Best Comedy, Best Comedy Actress and Best Screenplay.
The series focused on Nadia, a 36-year-old who repeats her birthday over and over again, trapped in a time loop that begins in the bathroom at her party while the sound of gotta get up by Harry Nilsson. The day passes and when he dies, he returns back to the starting point, remembering everything he has already lived through.
Now, from its premiere in February 2019 until now, a whopping three years have passed and it is possible that to see this second season you need a little review of what happened. Sharing is living, so we are going to summarize the most important part of the series so that you can start watching it as soon as you finish reading.
Attention, spoilers. Next we are going to reveal much of what happens in the first season of the Netflix series, so if you have not seen it in these three years, do not continue reading.
The end of the first season of Russian doll on netflix
Nadia, as we have already told you, is stuck on the day of her 36th birthday. She needs to know what’s going on and how to stop it. In one of her walks, she realizes that she and Alan are in the same situation, only that Alan repeats over and over again the day he asked her girlfriend to marry him and she left him for someone else.
But it’s clear that their deaths are connected and at the end of the first season it is discovered that this death is not so much a time loop that the world resets over and over again, but that life continues in different universes. Dr. Strange’s Madness Multiverse in Marvel but in a smaller version of New York and without so many bad guys.
The true connection between the two is that each could have saved the other’s life, so they relive the moment over and over again to try to save themselves and destroy the loop that always begins with their deaths, but something happens. When they revive at the end of the season, they do so in different universes. and without recognition.
What happens in the second season
After the trailer one thing is clear and that is now We are not talking about time loops but about time traveland if not look:
the meter of New York is the portal in time and maybe there is unfinished business that Nadia and Alan will have to resolve if they want to return to their lives and to the normality of a life in which time is linear and much simpler.
New characters like Annie Murphy and Sharlto Copley could be crucial for us to finally understand everything that this story that talks about personal healing hides with the help of time travel and time loops.
Now the question is whether Nadia will manage to “heal” and return to her life, because what we are sure of is that this second season of Russian doll It will hook us as much as the first.
