The month of January is usually characterized by having full gyms. A significant percentage of human beings include in their New Year’s resolutions some action related to physical activity, be it: exercising, losing weight, improving health, among others.
A small study of 1,075 American adults found that 44 percent generated a resolution list, and 13 percent included exercise in their content. Unfortunately, we often give up and throw in the towel too quickly. The Strava physical activity tracking app calculates that the resolution to exercise is abandoned just weeks into the year. Strava registers a peak of physical activities the first days of the year that little by little decreases until it stabilizes and stays that way until the last months.
Unfortunately, the initial impulse that causes the gyms to look crowded the first days of the year, decreases with the passing of the weeks, causing, towards the end of the year, gyms, if not empty, occupied by the usual athletes and by one or another who had the talent to gather the necessary discipline to build a habit and obtain physical and mental benefits derived from practicing sports.
Statistics and facts indicate that the month of January is the month with the highest number of registrations for sports centers. The number of Internet searches for words related to it confirm this. Some statistics also indicate that 50 percent of registrations are canceled at the end of January and 22 percent maintain their attendance with certain frequencies until October. Sometimes we think that it is enough to pay to comply, however, the facts show that this act is only the beginning.
Although the end of the year and the summer are the two economically ideal times to enroll in a gym, since they are the ones in which there are usually better rates and promotions, it will be discipline that can strengthen permanence when the initial enthusiasm runs out. .
Fulfilling the New Year’s resolution will not be easy, however, you will have a much better chance of achieving it if you: 1. Set goals. 2. You do sports in a group. 3. If your activities are in closed spaces, easily accessible and with little material or equipment.
Be patient, be persistent and you will get great benefits in the short, medium and long term. Everyone to the gym, not just in January, but all year long.
