The worrying reality of Mexico dictates that two babies are born every day to mothers who are between 10 and 11 years old, according to a report published by the Information Group on Chosen Reproduction (GIRE).
These serious figures revealed by the study point out that there are no conditions in Mexico for women to choose about their reproductive life.
Mexican women experience a level of lack of protection in which they cannot decide on their reproductive life, “affected by a serious context of sexual violence that the State continues to fail to remedy,” the investigation indicates.
In 2016, 11.6% of pregnant adolescents in the country were victims of sexual violence and in 2017, one in six births was to young people in this age range.
The last aspect that this report analyzes is that of “incomplete social security”, that is, the deficiencies of the Mexican Popular Health Service in terms of treating mothers.
GIRE is an organization that fights for the reproductive rights of women, collects in its report data and figures on points such as teenage pregnancy, criminalization of abortion, obstetric violence and maternal death in Mexico.
