The initiative arises after this talent contest has garnered high levels of audience in key countries of the Latin American region such as: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile, considered the leaders in international rating.
The statement released by UER, Eurovision Latin America will have the production of Christer Björkman, Anders Lenhoff, Ola Melzig, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone from Voxovation, the producers of American Song Contest and Eurovision Song Contest Canada.
Martin Osterdahl, executive supervisor of Eurovision, indicated that it is a success to present this reality show that received the Guinness record in 2015 as the longest-running television music contest in the world to Latin America.
“After the launch of American Song Contest, and with plans in place for the Eurovision Song Contest Canada next year the European Broadcasting Union is delighted to now be working with Voxovation to bring the excitement and magic of the Eurovision Song Contest to Latin America. The unique format of Eurovision finds new fans around the world every year and we can’t wait to expand the brand in this very diverse part of the world”, he stated.
Production will start on selection of the Latin American city that will host the Latin American Eurovision Song Contestamong the main candidates to be the first organizer are: Mexico City and Buenos Aires.
What is Eurovision?
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual television contest, in which interpreters representing television stations (mostly public) whose countries are members of the European Broadcasting Union participate. This contest has been broadcast since 1956, the oldest still broadcast in the world.
Among its great winners are names that have marked the history of music, such as ABBA, who triumphed in 1974 for Sweden; Celine Dion represented Switzerland in 1988; Israel’s Danna International in 1998.
