The Ropsten testnet on the Ethereum network is ready to prepare the “first dress rehearsal” of the merger to adopt the proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
The developer of Ethereum Tim Beikog ad Tuesday that a new Beacon Chain has been launched for Ropsten. It will serve as a precursor to the final Fusion test, which is expected to be “around June 8”.

The Ropsten testnet is one of many testing grounds for Ethereum clients. Mimics aspects of the Ethereum mainnetsuch as the use of a worthless form of Ether (ETH) to execute the transactions and the encoding environment, but changes made to it do not affect the main network.
Ropsten is also Ethereum’s longest-running Proof-of-Work (PoW) testnet, having launched in 2016.

When Ropsten finally undergoes his own merger, it will be a first look at what the actual merger may look like on the Ethereum mainnet.. The resulting effects on the testnet, its applications, and clients will give developers a first look at what they can expect to see in the mainnet merge, and how to prevent problems from arising.
Beiko said there are still several things developers and node runners need to prepare for in the time until the Ropsten merge date.. The beacon chain must release one last update, and the mining difficulty, known as TTD, on the PoW side must be determined.
The update will come first, followed by the TTD, which “should be chosen before June ⅔,” Beiko added..
The Fusion is one of the most anticipated events in the history of the Ethereum network because it will fulfill several objectives. It will convert Ethereum’s PoW consensus algorithm to PoS, make the network much more energy efficient, and rename the network Consensus Layer, formerly known as Eth2. It is expected to take place in August this year..
Despite the hopes of thousands of Ethereum users, the merger is not expected to reduce gas fees on the network.
