If this opens the door to a crossover, we would be very happy, as a new featurette from Eternals confirms that Superman is known in the MCU.
Eternals is getting closer and closer to theaters, and with an advertising campaign underway, more and more featurettes have been featured that account for some details of the film. And perhaps the most surprising is that Superman is known in the MCU, according to a clip from Eternals.
The Eternals clip features each of the main characters on the divine hero team, and the need for Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersei (Gemma Chan) to recruit the rest of the characters. On Ikaris’s turn to speak, we see him with Sersei recruiting master inventor Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry). Phastos leads a life among humans, with a partner and a son, Jack. And it is the child who, recognizing Ikaris, exclaims:
“Dad, that’s Superman in the cape and you were shooting lasers through his eyes!”
To this, Ikaris responds: “I don’t wear a cape.”
References to pop culture, like this one to Superman, as ComicBook.Com recalls, are not uncommon in the MCU. “We have already seen DC appear in Marvel winks, especially in series like Netflix’s Luke Cage, with many references to Superman, or Iron Man 3, with its reference to Happy Hogan’s Séper Amigos.” We can also quote Tom Holland doing “casting” for Batman and Deadpool in his first meeting with Cable saying: “I am Batman.”

Marvel Deluxe – Eternals
More than thirty-five years ago, comic book legend Jack “King” Kirby returned to the House of Ideas with what was perhaps his greatest idea of all: the Eternals universe! The creation of these characters was the result of Kirby’s incessant curiosity about the origin of man and his mythology. However, like many of the King’s concepts, it was ahead of its time.
In 2006, superstar creators Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. bravely took on these concepts and in the process told a fresh and fun story filled with mystery, suspense, and majestic power. All in order to help establish the creation of Kirby as a vital part of the Marvel Universe once and for all.
In the context of Marvel’s Civil War, the Eternals awaken one by one from a strange trance to face the fact that they are not the ordinary people they thought they were. However, they will also discover that there is little time to mourn, as they will be thrown into a life and death struggle that spans time and space!
