Yesterday, Thursday, the first edition of Esférica Rioja Alavesa was launched, a new concept of event that was born with the vocation of being much more than a music festival, offering a series of experiences in unique enclaves in historic municipalities of Rioja Alavesa and that Until next Sunday, August 22, it will combine music, art, land and gastronomy.
And the inauguration took place, precisely, in the unique Bodegas Ysios building, signed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in 2001, which hosted the first act of Esférica Rioja Alavesa, a proposal that aspires to be a national benchmark in terms of new models of territorial promotion.
A total festival that was born within the proposal ‘Festivals for a territory’, which addresses the creation and development of multidisciplinary, avant-garde and personalized cultural events, adapting to the environment and its values, and which is developed under the protection and learning of Five successful editions of the Ribeira Sacra festival, so that between the two events a constant dialogue is developed from which both are nurtured to grow.
“Esférica Rioja Alavesa does not want to be a music festival, it wants to be an experience festival where music does play an important role because in the end it is the common thread through which we are going to discover different locations that we have proposed this year”, he explains Carlos Montilla Cortizo, director of both festivals. In this sense, the exhibition also opened its doors at the opening ceremony Displacements. Video creation pieces in the Artium Collection, a video-creation sample of pieces from the Artium Collection that move from the museum space to the Ysios winery space.
Gastronomy in Esférica Rioja Alavesa
Gastronomy will also be a fundamental pillar of this event, as a sign of the cultural identity of a territory that values the local product paired with the wines of one of the most important wine-growing regions on the national scene, Rioja Alavesa. At the controls of the gastronomic aspect of the festival, will be Iñaki Murua and Carolina Sánchez, from Íkaro Restaurante. Awarded with a Michelin star and a Repsol sun, in their cuisine they bet on the fusion between their origins: Basque Country and Ecuador.
