The Italian oil company Eni announced today the discovery of a new oil field in Mexico which according to their preliminary estimates may have reserves of up to 200 million barrels.
The discovery occurred in the exploration area called Yatzil in block 7, in block 10 in the medium depth waters in Southeast Saline Basinthe company explained in a note.
Yatzil-1 EXP it is the second well of the block 7 and the eighth well drilled successfully by Eni in the Southeast Basinapproximately 65 kilometers from the coast and 30 km from other deposits.
The well was drilled by the platform Valaris DPS5 Semisub in a water depth of 284 meters and reached a total depth of 2,441 meters.
Yatzil-1 EXP found more than 40 meters of net oil production of good quality, with excellent petrophysical properties confirmed by extensive subsurface data collection.
This result follows the Saasken and Sayulita discoveries in Block 10 and confirms the value of Eni’s portfolio of Mexican assets.”

The Block 7 exploration project is made up of Eni with a 45% stake, Capricorn (30%) and Citla Energy (25%).
