There are many elements that have helped the Marvel Cinematic Universe conquer the public, but one of its main distinctive features is the great use of humor. You will like it more or less, but comedy has a strong presence and now Joe Russoco-director of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has explained the reason.
Marvel’s Secret Sauce
Russo already clarified a few days ago why Iron Man had to die in that film and not Captain America, but perhaps even more interesting is his reflection on the use of humor by Marvel and who is primarily responsible for it:
Marvel’s secret sauce is that Kevin likes movies to be entertaining, you know? And entertainment often involves humor, and I think Kevin is very much into testing movies and I think he likes to sit in the test screening and hear the feedback. So the audience laughs, you can hear his response. You can understand him, ‘Okay, every 2 minutes they’re enjoying the movie,’ and that’s a powerful way for him to gauge how the movie will work with the audience, you know? Humor is very important to him.
Come on, we owe it to Kevin Feig, something that is not surprising either, since he has been the main guide of the Marvel movies. He also makes it clear that we can walk away forgetting any possibility that this universe is going to take a more serious approach from here on out. Oh well, for that we already have DC.
Of course, let’s not think that Marvel has invented this resource to hook the public more strongly, since other franchises have already done it before. What could be said is that has debugged it to a point where his movies seem infallible at the box office.
