A Mexican judge postponed this Tuesday for the last time the intermediate hearing of the former director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) from 2012 to 2016, Emilio Lozoyafor money laundering, bribery and criminal association in the corruption case of the Brazilian company odebrecht in Mexico.
The hearing will now be held on March 10.after the decision of the control judge Gerardo Genaro Alarcón, who rejected the arguments presented by the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR).
In this sense, the Mexican judge granted the term requested by the defense of Lozoya and his mother Gilda Margarita Austin, considering that the request is justified.

During a procedure at the Federal Criminal Justice Center of the North Prison, where the former head of Pemex is imprisoned, Lozoya’s mother appealed to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his “human sense and justice” to reach an agreement in favor of Pemexbecause he even mentioned that “paying less has not been negotiated.”
The best thing is that we reach an agreement, it is the best for all parties. My son has complied in denouncing other people involved in corruption, he is the highest-level official of the past six-year term who has had the courage to tell what happened, ”he said, according to what was leaked to the media.
He also maintained that he trusts the authorities and that they “punish the real culprits.”
While the representatives of the FGR rejected the granting of a new extension in the Odebrecht case and accused these measures of unjustified delays that cause legal uncertainty for the Mexican people.
Both cases still open before the courts
The former director of Pemex from 2012 to 2016 was arrested in Spain at the beginning of 2020 and months later he was extradited to Mexico, where he has two open cases before the Justice, both for corruption.
The first is for having allegedly received 10.5 million dollars in bribes from the Brazilian odebrecht during the campaign and subsequent government of former President Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018).
Lozoya is the main implicated in the global Odebrecht bribery scandal in Mexico.
And the second, for the overpriced purchase of the useless plant Agronitrogenous businessman Alonso Ancira, owner of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), in exchange for bribes.
For both cases, The Mexican Prosecutor’s Office requests a sentence of 54 years in prison for the former official who led the Mexican state oil company in the past administration.
Just for the Odebrecht case, the FGR requests 39 years in prison against Lozoya.
