Elon Musk has again warned of the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) during Tesla’s Investor Day 2023 presentation, demonstrating his fear for this technology and even assuring that, in part, he is responsible for it.
At the presentation, Musk was asked by one of the company’s investors about the potential impact AI could have on Tesla, especially with regard to things like vehicle production.
The also CEO of Twitter and SpaceX responded and confessed his concern about AI. He suggested that regulators and governments step in to prevent the concept from being misused.according to the report published on the website of Slash Gear.
“I’m a little worried about the AI stuff. I think it’s something we should worry about. I think we need some kind of regulatory authority, or something like that, to oversee the development of AI and make sure it works in the public interest. It’s quite a dangerous technology, I’m afraid I could have done a few things to speed it upMusk said.
The role of AI at Tesla
Tesla cars and the driver aids that set them apart are powered by artificial intelligence. Other company products in the future will also rely heavily on AI.
In fact, part of the Investor Day presentation focused on the company’s Optimus robot. The robot itself uses the same AI built into Tesla cars and, according to Musk, it will be able to learn and solve puzzles when it goes on sale.
Failing to consider the ethical side of AI, Elon Musk boasted that Tesla has the most advanced “real world” artificial intelligence on Earth. Even as he mused about AI after the investor’s question, Musk backed Tesla’s forays into the concept.
“Some of the AI stuff is obviously useful, like what we’re doing with autonomous driving. Tesla is doing good things in AI. But it stresses me out so I don’t know what to say about it”.
