Elon Musk once again immersed himself in the debate regarding the advances of the artificial intelligence (AI).
This time, with a Disturbing perspective on the role of technology in the future of work.
And during an AI security summit in the United Kingdom, Musk shared with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak his vision on how AI would surpass human intelligenceradically changing the nature of the jobs we know until now.
What is Musk’s current opinion on AI?
According to Musk, AI is developing at an exponential rate, multiplying “for five or ten every year”making it the “most disruptive force in history.”
Musk predicted that there will come a time when “no work will be needed”since AI will be able to perform all tasks more efficiently than humans.
During the instance, Musk expressed that, although people could choose to work for personal satisfaction, the AI would have the ability to take over all job functions.
Additionally, the SpaceX CEO suggested the implementation of a “high universal income” to address potential employment shortages.
Negative consequences
Although Musk envisions a world where AI provides universal access and improves quality of life by eliminating scarcity of goods and services, he also warned of potential negative consequences.
Using the metaphor of a genie who fulfills wishes, Musk stressed the need to be cautious about limitless aspirations in AI development.
This futuristic AI scenario is not new for Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and recently launched his own AI company, xAI.
Algorithm-based technology already powers several of Musk’s companies, from the driver-assist system of tesla to the satellites starlink from SpaceX and beyond.
All in all, the evolution of AI, according to Musk, will mark a significant milestone in human history and will require careful consideration of its implications.
