China will be the first country in the world that regulates the development of Artificial Intelligence. The curious thing is that the announcement does not come from some high command of the country, but from Elon Musk, who recently visited.
The tycoon, a staunch critic of technology, spoke on the subject in a Twitter Spaces with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Democratic presidential candidate.
“It is worth noting that on my recent trip to China I visited the senior leadership there,” Musk explained, quoted by Reuters. “I think we had some very productive discussions about the risks of Artificial Intelligence and the need for supervision and regulation”.
“And my understanding of those conversations is that China will initiate the regulation of Artificial Intelligence”, added.
Last April, China’s cyberspace regulator announced a draft of measures to manage generative AI services. It also sought that companies submit security assessments to the authorities.
But China is not the only country putting pressure on companies. The European Union and the United States warned that in the coming weeks they will launch a Code of Conduct for Artificial Intelligence.
They did it after the meeting of the Group of 7 held in Japan, where it was called for AI to be developed in accordance with democratic values.
Elon Musk and Artificial Intelligence, a love-hate relationship
The relationship between Elon Musk and Artificial Intelligence has been one of love-hate. The South African was part of the founding group of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, but withdrew due to differences with his other partners.
Subsequently Musk has trumpeted the dangers of AI, even considering it a threat against civilization.
Even benign dependency on AI/Automation is dangerous to civilization if taken so far that we eventually forget how the machines work

“Even the benign reliance on Artificial Intelligence/Automation It is dangerous for civilization if it is taken so far that we eventually forget how machines work,” he said in May via his Twitter account.
However, Musk seeks to boost competition from ChatGPT, which will be called TruthGPT, and his company Tesla is focused on developing its Autopilot technology with AI.
