Elon Musk was (once again) a trend throughout the early hours of this Wednesday, August 17, after he said in Twitter who would buy the Man Utd.
That’s right, the world’s richest man, who has a long history of disruptive tweets, said he wanted to buy the club from the premier league and, of course, the debate began: Is it true? Are you kidding? It’s possible?
Several hours later, after having generated discussion on social media, Musk He said his tweet was just a joke.
However, he did leave one door open: there is hope for fans, as Musk added that if he were to buy a club, that would be the Man Utd“It was my favorite team when I was a kid,” he said.

Elon Musk and Manchester United
When Musk first tweeted about buying the Man Utdthousands of social media users were left in disbelief and one wrote: “Are you serious?”.
Hours later, Musk replied: “No, it’s a long-running joke in Twitter. I’m not going to buy any sports club.”
Although later, in another post, he added: “Although, if it was any team, it would be Man U. It was my favorite team when I was a kid.”
The idea of Musk for the content of the initial tweet must have stemmed from the request of the fans at the beginning of 2022, when they urged the richest man in the world to buy the Premier League club.
Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX and with a net worth of about $264 billion, made a $44 billion bid to buy Twitter last April, and United fans wanted him, taking advantage of the spending spree, buy your club. The Manchester giant is now dwarfed by other far better-performing English clubs, including arch-rivals Manchester City.
This is not the first time Musk has lied about buying companies. In April, after Twitter’s board accepted his offer, he wrote: “Now the next thing I’m going to buy is Coca-Cola, to put the cocaine back.”
Musk’s tweets about potential purchases have landed him in deep trouble with US regulators.
In 2018, he tweeted that “funding was secured” for a $72bn deal to re-privatize Tesla, but did not follow through with an offer.
Musk and Tesla each paid $20 million in fines, and Musk He had to resign as president of the company due to the demand of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) considering that the tycoon “defrauded investors.”
