He electronic ID (DNIe) is a document that provides many benefits to those who have it, among them that the citizen can make digital signatures with the same validity as if they were in the place in person. In other words, if you have to do something and cannot go to the place, thanks to that identification there will be no problem.
This type of ID it is the size of a credit card and contains a cryptographic chip. Currently, only people can request it over 18 years, but it is hoped that in the future the younger ones can also have it.
Requirements to request the electronic ID
- Being over 18 years
- Go to an agency of the Reniec (National Registry of Identification and Civil Status) that offers the procedure, since they are not carried out in all of them.
- Pay S/41 for the emission right with tax code 00521 in Págalo.peBanco de la Nación or Banco de Crédito (from the app, agents or website there is no commission charge).
- Submit proof of payment (you must indicate the ID number of the person who will carry out the process).
- Let them take your fingerprints and if you wish you can take the opportunity to update personal information such as marital status, address, among others.
- Return to the place where you carried out the procedure in approximately 10 days
Benefits of the electronic ID
- Having this document will allow you to access electronic voting, process certified copies of official acts with legal value, among other documents without leaving home.
- It allows having a digital signature, which is equivalent to a handwritten signature. That is, if you need to sign a document and you cannot go to the place, you can use this benefit.

Lima, Callao, Chiclayo, Piura, Tumbes, Trujillo, Cajamarca, Tarapoto, Iquitos, Chimbote, Huancayo, Arequipa, Tacna, Cusco, Puno, Chincha, Huancavelica, Chachapoyas, Jaén, Pucallpa, Huamanga, Cañete, Huánuco and Pasco are 24 cities in the country that have authorized agencies.
Can I change venue to collect the electronic ID?
Yes, but you must bear in mind that to do so you will need to pay S/5.00 more and the delivery time of the document will increase between 10 and 15 days.
How much does the electronic ID cost?
If it is for the first time, it costs S/ 41, for a duplicate it is S/ 33 soles if you pay online and 35 soles if you do the process at an agency.
How many years does the electronic ID last?
The document is valid for 8 years (from the moment of delivery), but the digital signature only lasts 4 years.
Can another person collect my electronic ID?
No, since when you go to the Reniec to get your DNI, they will ask you to make a digital signature and create a password.
