The Ministry of Health of the State of Mexico reported that there is a record of two cases of monkey pox or simian, in two adult men residing in Zumpango and Chimalhuacán; both are in their homes with epidemiological surveillance.
The Mexican institution explained that these are two adult men, 30 and 41 years old, who have a history of travel.
He added that both cases were identified and treated in health units in Mexico City, which are monitored in the clinical part from the onset of symptoms.
The agency specified that the first case of monkey pox is a 30-year-old man who lives in the municipality of Zumpango, who made a trip to Austria and, on June 1, received care in a CDMX medical unit and after taking a sample, by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE), tested positive for this condition.
The second case is a 41-year-old male from the municipality of Chimalhuacán, who vacationed in Campeche and had contact with foreigners and on June 28, after an evaluation and follow-up consultation at the La Condesa Specialty Clinic, tested positive for monkey pox.
“Monkeypox and acute childhood hepatitis”
The Mexican Ministry of Health specified that, as part of the epidemiological care and monitoring protocol in the entity, the State Public Health Laboratory of the State of Mexico has taken samples from its contacts, which have been sent to the InDRE with negative results.
Likewise, he reiterated that both patients are clinically stable and remain in isolation, for which epidemiological surveillance and timely follow-up are maintained through the Health Jurisdictions of Zumpango and Texcoco of the Health Institute of the State of Mexico (ISEM).
The director of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that he will reconvene the Emergency Committee to assess the severity of monkeypox. So far, more than 6,000 cases have been reported in 58 countries and the number is constantly increasing. Therefore, some specialists consider that it is time to consider the outbreak an international emergency.
