At this point, the chances of surviving the disease are reduced drastically.
It was in 2016 when Edith González revealed that it was detected ovarian cancer, so since then did not stop fighting against this disease and despite the fact that he had been assured that he only had five years to live, he only lived three.
Days before her death, Edith González had been hospitalized and because some devices kept her alive, her family asked to be disconnected at Gonzalez’s request.
The death of the actress devastated her closest relatives, who thought that the disease had been controlled, but when they found out that her immune system had given way, she knew that the end had come.
What is ovarian cancer?
Ovarian cancer is not commonbut it causes more deaths compared to other cancers of the female reproductive system, so the earlier it is diagnosed and treated, the better the chances of recovery.
This type of cancer is difficult to detect in early stages. Women who suffer from it do not have symptoms until the disease is already very advanced and at that time it is difficult to treat.
Symptoms of this disease can be:
- Feeling of weight in the pelvis
- Pain in the lower abdomen
- vaginal bleeding
- Weight gain or loss
- abnormal menstrual periods
- Unexplained back pain that gets worse
- Gas, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite
These symptoms can also be caused by benign (noncancerous) diseases and by cancer of other organs. When caused by ovarian cancer, these symptoms tend to be persistent already represent a change from what is normal.
For example, symptoms may be more severe or occur more often. These symptoms are more likely to be caused by other conditionsand most occur about as often in women who don’t have ovarian cancer.
Other symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:
- Tiredness (extreme exhaustion)
- Stomach problems
- Back pain
- pain during intercourse
- Constipation
- Changes in a woman’s menstrual period, such as bleeding heavier than normal or irregular bleeding
- Abdominal (belly) swelling with weight loss
What are the risk factors for ovarian cancer?
The main risk factors are:
- Inheritance of mutated genes such as BCRA1 and 2 that is also related to the risk of developing ovarian cancer. Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) syndrome.
- Family history: Sometimes ovarian cancer can appear in more than one member of the family, without this having to do with known hereditary factors.
- Personal history of breast cancer.
- Age: more frequent in postmenopause.
- Fertility: not having had children. Having been subjected to ovulation-inducing treatments, although this seems more related to the context of sterility itself than to the medication.
- Estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy.
- Obesity or high-fat diet.
It should be noted that it is very important that in case of any symptoms you go to the doctor immediately.
