Cyberpunk: Edgerunners takes place in many places that you can visit in Cyberpunk 2077. Anyone who has spent a minimum of hours in the game can recognize all the scenarios in the series. There is a place that is unmistakable, that appears in both works and that has one of the best references between the two… one of the saddest and most epic.
MASSIVE SPOILERS BEWARE: This post has SPOILERS for the Cyberpunk 2077 game and the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series.
The afterlife legends
The after life It is one of the best clubs in Night City and the meeting point between the fixers (headhunters) and merchandise (mercenaries). Its antiquity dates back to decades before Cyberpunk 2077, even before the appearance of Johnny Silverhand. And just to get you started, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners takes place in 2076, one year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is lore, but it has no real impact on Cyberpunk 2077 beyond introducing the conflict between Militech Vs Arasaka and some references: David Martínez’s jacket and… one more thing. The reason for this post. I start at the beginning.
The stories of the Cyberpunk universe are based on one of the most famous phrases in the video game, said by the fixer Dexter DeShawn: What do you prefer? To live quietly as a nobody, or to go down in history gloriously before turning thirty?
The first time you visit the Afterlife, your chum Jackie Welles he is very excited and tells you that this club has seen the greatest legends of Night City. Sitting at the bar, Jackie orders a drink called Johnny Silverhand. Then, Claire Russell (the waitress) explains how you can have your name on a drink: by dying in an epic and brutal way during an operation.
Currently, the Afterlife has granted this honor to only three people: Johnny Silverhand, Jackie Welles (after the intro) and… David Martinez. Exactly, the protagonist of Edgerunners who dies from the cyberpsychosis and after a brutal battle against adam smasher. The club added the drink shortly after his death.

- Johnny Silverhand: “An old fashioned tequila with a splash of beer and a very hot chili. In honor of the rocker who never gave up.“
- Jackie Welles: “Vodka on the rocks, lime juice, ginger beer, and most importantly… a dash of love.“
- The David Martinez: “A shot of vodka on the rocks, with NiCola on top. Aim high and take a clean shot.”
If you want to pay tribute to David Martínez as a merc, you can always stop by Afterlife and have a drink that bears his name to his health. It doesn’t grant buffs (rather, it makes you worse), but it’s a nice gesture.
