At a very early stage of development, Project Rene teases what to expect in the future of The Sims.
In a direct in which they wanted to celebrate the launch of The Sims 4 for free, Electronic Arts has unexpectedly announced Project Rene, which will end up becoming the future next-gen Sims game. However, it has been insisted that it is a project at a very early stage of development, which means that it will take years to play what could end up being called The Sims 5.
“We are building the next generation Sims game”, has revealed Lyndsay Pearson, creative vice president of franchises for The Sims, who has also explained that The Sims is being reimagined to offer new ways to play. “This is the future of The Sims, built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.”.
The Sims future game will allow users to play alone or in company, reaching different devices, including consoles and mobiles. However, development is now looking at what works best with the series to offer more flexibility than ever before.
“We start with the ability to change not just patterns and colors, but also the shapes of objects which you will use when building and decorating the game”, advance from EA. “With Project Rene, we want to make it easier to work together and share“.

Electronic Arts seems to have focused on the success of mobile games or the hybrid console Nintendo Switch, as it has explained that Project Rene can be played wherever you want. However, for now, updates can only be expected over “the next few years”, anticipating that early access to the game will be done with small groups. Luckily, any player can access The Sims 4, which will keep being updated with new features, including new expansions.
