Producer Hiram García confirms that the actor will no longer be in the franchise and has given more information about Hobss & Shaw 2.
We’ve officially seen Luke Hobbs last appearance in the main franchise of Fast and furious. Dwayne johnson said it recently in an interview, but the producer and president of production of Seven Bucks Productions of Johnson, Hiram Garcia, later confirmed to Collider that he will not appear in Fast & Furious 10 nor in Fast & Furious 11. The actor made his debut in fast Five (2011) and continued to excel in installments 6, 7 and 8. But it was after the eighth film, Johnson decided to move away from the main series and create his own corner of the universe with the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw (2019).
The film was a hit when it was released in 2019, grossing $ 760 million worldwide, and immediately got the talk of a sequel.
Recently, the Managing Editor of Collider, Adam chitwood has had the opportunity to speak with Garcia in an extensive exclusive interview about Seven Bucks Productions’ many projects in development and the release of Jungle cruise in conjunction with Disney, and confirmed that a Hobbs & Shaw 2 is very present:
“At the moment we’re trying to figure out what that sequel is going to be, but we have some very big ideas.”
Right now we’re trying to figure out what that sequel is going to be, but we have great ideas.
In March 2020, Johnson announced that Chris Morgan would be rewriting the script for a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw, and it seems that continuation remains a priority for everyone involved, even if Johnson does not return for the last two films. Garcia confirmed not only that Johnson made the decision to close his chapter of Fast and furious by all the obvious reasons, Rather, that decision has not prevented plans to build the franchise of Hobbs & Shaw:
After filming Fast 8 DJ made the clear decision to close the Fast & Furious chapter for all the evident reasons. He wished them all well and shifted our focus on to other story telling avenues. So while he will not be in F10 or F11, that won’t in any way interfere with our Hobbs plans. Obviously all these characters exist in the Fast universe and we love to see all aspects of that universe thrive and succeed. We just have specific plans for what we want to do with the Hobbs character and I think the fans are going to love it! We’re working to deliver something very unique and fresh and we know the studio is eager for us to get into it ASAP! “

Johnson recently completed a production marathon in which he has gone from Hobbs & Shaw to Jumanji: The Next Level to Jungle cruise, to the upcoming Netflix thriller Red Notice already his debut in DC Films, Black Adam. Se is taking a short break, but is expected to move on to his next project in 2022. It probably won’t be Hobbs & Shaw 2as they’re still trying to find the right story angle, but it’s clear from Garcia’s comments that the sequel is a priority for Seven Bucks and Universal Pictures.
