A few hours ago it was news that Sonos launched the 2nd generation Beam, a more compact model with support for Dolby Atmos. And incidentally, it has been announced that the brand will add support for DTS audio on some of your speakers thanks to an update before the end of the year.
Sonos will add support for DTS Digital Surround audio decoding via the S2 platform on speakers such as the Sonos Playbar, Playbase, Amp and on both generations of Sonos Beam and Sonos Arc.
DTS and Dolby Atmos audio
This means that models that have been on the market for a while, will receive a major update that will allow its owners to enjoy DTS object-based audio and not see how the speaker goes silent when it comes to playing that type of content.
This means that owners of old devices are also promised a major upgrade. If home theater fans use a Blu-Ray player as their player, the Sonos settings are often muted due to the DTS soundtracks that often appear on discs. Of course, support for DTS: X and DTS-HD will not arrive.
In addition to the Dolby audio formats, Sonos will enable DTS Digital Surround audio And it will do so through a software update that will also allow some Sonos products access to lossless audio from Amazon Music, which means lossless audio up to 24-bit / 48 kHz, as well as Dolby Atmos Music.
Amazon Music’s Dolby Atmos Support Coming to 2nd Gen Sonos Arc and Beam Speakers, while Amazon Music’s lossless audio will be compatible with all S2 devices except Play: 1, Play: 3, Playbase, and Playbar. For now Sonos has not referred to enabling support for Dolby Atmos on platforms such as Apple Music.
New features are coming thanks to a software update which will be released later this year.
