Dragon Quest Treasures arouses sympathy, despite its fair technical section.
When we think of Dragon Quest it comes to mind a fantasy RPG adventure with exploration, combat and a unique sense of humor. The new game in the saga could be considered a little brother, a spin-off that has no greater ambition than telling a story. Dragon Quest Treasures is not only a treasure hunter adventure, but in the first hour of play we have not been able to see that level of depth that other games have. Today we tell you about our experience with this Square Enix title that comes out on December 9 on Nintendo Switch.

One of those releases is Dragon Quest Treasures which offers a quiet and leisurely experience for fans of the portable console. And as such, it is a game with more puzzles and exploration as he drops the name of the game. The story features a pair of siblings, Erik and Mia, who find themselves in a viking ship. In the next room, the crew members of this boat celebrate for the found treasures, but the brothers want to live their own adventure. They meet on the deck, where they teach us the first mechanics, something simple. Ducking to go through some places narrow or use the slingshot are our first steps.
The latter will be essential for combat, but let’s not get sidetracked. Erik uses his slingshot to open a ship cage and release a couple of curious creatures: a flying pig and a flying cat, although later we discover that it is a cat. This does not like the Vikings and both brothers launch with a boat on the open sea to escape. That’s where your adventure really begins. On the first island, Mia and Erik enter a dungeon to find their first treasure: two magic daggers. First you have to solve a puzzle that is not complicated, but anticipates what we can find later: switches, shortcuts or levers are an option.

The daggers have a special power that we will not reveal, in addition to being an interesting twist to the plot. This time controlling Mia, the girl befriends the most iconic creature from Dragon Quest. Sure enough, we’re talking about a pink slime this time that has the power to view hidden treasures. The mechanics consists of visualizing an image, where the ‘X’ of the treasure is, so Mia only has to find the exact spot and dig with the dagger.
Simplified combat
We can’t talk in depth about the combat. The first contact it was really short. Mia can attack with the melee dagger, but it didn’t seem like a good idea. Finally slime helped him get rid of a flying enemy, while Mia used her slingshot against the target. From that moment on, slime us accompanies the whole trip and it seems that it will not be the only one as it happens with other games in the saga.
Real-time combat is pretty streamlined
What is evident is that the game will have a simplified combat and a level progression system to improve base attributes. In any case, it is an RPG game that always arouses our curiosity and sympathy for the character design. It is true that on a technical level he is weaker than his older brothers, but there are still more than 2 and a half months to go. see the end result.
