Perhaps many of our readers did not have the opportunity to experience the boom of classic animes like Dragon Ball Z Y Saint Seiya (The Knights of the Zodiac). But in the case of Latin America, the premiere of both anime series took place in the mid-1990s.
It was a unique historical moment for the world and particularly for this region of the planet, where the internet was in its infancy and the platforms of streaming they were a decade away from being created.
The only way to learn more about Dragon Ball Z and The Knights of the Zodiac was through fanzines, exploring dark corners of the internet or participating in forums and even chat rooms, where the lucky ones who had already seen the episodes that had not yet arrived here they shared the details of the plot.
This context and setting was the perfect breeding ground to let the imagination fly with the waiting times between each new chapter of the anime.
What at the time triggered tons of fan-art and fan-fiction where the most incompatible sagas imaginable intermingled with each other. Well, the story we share with you today has just that essence in its DNA.
This is how the Dragon Ball Z characters look like Saint Seiya’s golden knights
From Chile, a series of spectacular images illustrated by the artist known as @salvamakotowho, through his Instagram account, has spread his great idea.
What would happen if the Dragon Ball Z characters applied the fusion technique to make an epic crossover with the world of The Knights of the Zodiac?
The answer is found in the series of Z-Knights, where Salva visualizes what the main warriors of Akira Toriyama’s universe would look like in the golden armor of Saint Seiya. The idea is brutally disturbing and the result of his work is even more so:
There is no precise canonical order for the designation of each zodiac clothing, as we can see there are illustrations of Goku wearing Leo’s armor, just like Libra’s.
While Vegeta looks like the perfect casting choice wearing the Cancer Sign Death Mask armor.
For some reason Yamcha as Scorpio looks quite good and Bardock as Aiolos de Sagittarius seems to have a parallel connection with the destiny of both characters, sacrificing himself to save the baby on which the future of humanity will depend.
Android 17 and 18 as Aquarius and Pisces respectively also look downright spectacular and the detail in each illustration makes them look like stills straight out of an actual anime.
We highly recommend visiting his artist’s Instagram account where you can find art from great animated classics.
